Intended parents: choosing an agency

How do you choose a surrogacy agency?

The short answer

Choose a surrogacy agency on nine verifiable criteria, in this order: who holds the money (independent licensed escrow, never the agency); who reads the surrogate's medical records (a physician, not a coordinator); whether the surrogate's psychological evaluation and attorney are independent; the agency's published ethics standard and SEEDS membership; the people who run matching and their caseload; current wait time to match, defined; success rates, defined per transfer and per journey; itemized pricing with written refund and rematch terms; and references from current parents and surrogates. Private Label Surrogacy, founded in 2017 by Nancy Block, RN, a former SEEDS president, publishes its position on all nine. Size and marketing budget are not on the list.

Editor notes (A-041): Target 'best surrogacy agency' as a secondary query without PLS calling itself best. Insert the actual caseload cap number as [PLS_CASELOAD_CAP]. 'surrogacy agency' (12,100) head term presumably belongs to the homepage or an agency landing page; coordinate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most important thing when choosing a surrogacy agency?

Who controls your money. Independent licensed escrow separates your funds from the agency's survival.

Is a bigger surrogacy agency safer?

No. The agency failures of 2024 to 2026 included large operations; safety comes from escrow structure, screening and independent professionals, not size.

How many agencies should I compare?

Three to five, scored on the same nine criteria with written answers.

Does SEEDS membership guarantee an ethical agency?

No, but members commit to published standards and can be reported; absence of membership is worth asking about.

What is the PLS caseload?

Two case managers, Natalie Gaudio-Fricano and Jenni Symons, both former surrogates, carry the active matches; the caseload is capped. [PLS_CASELOAD_CAP]
