Intended parents: choosing an agency

What does 'nurse-led surrogacy agency' mean, and why does it matter?

The short answer

A nurse-led surrogacy agency is one in which a registered nurse with clinical fertility experience makes the operational decisions: which surrogates are accepted, how records are read, how clinic protocols are followed, and when a medical concern stops a journey. At Private Label Surrogacy that nurse is founder Nancy Block, RN, 17 years an OB/GYN and fertility nurse and staff educator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Prentice Women's Pavilion, who founded The Center for Egg Options Illinois in 2000 and has run matching for 27 years. In practice it means a surrogate's prenatal history is understood before she is presented, clinic instructions are translated for you and the surrogate, and the agency recognizes a problem early. It is a different model from agencies run by marketing or legal professionals.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the nurse behind Private Label Surrogacy?

Nancy Block, RN, founder, with 17 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in OB/GYN and fertility nursing and 27 years building families.

Does the agency provide medical care?

No. Your fertility clinic and the surrogate's OB provide care; the agency's nurse and physician review records and coordinate.

Is a nurse-led agency the same as a physician-reviewed one?

They are two parts of the same standard at PLS: nurse leadership of operations and physician review of every surrogate's records.
