Surrogacy agency for Naperville, Illinois

The short answer

Naperville intended parents and surrogates work with Private Label Surrogacy, a nurse-founded agency in Northbrook, about 45 minutes away by car. Naperville has no local surrogacy agency; it does have fertility clinic locations, including Fertility Centers of Illinois in Naperville, where a PLS surrogate can do monitoring without driving to the city. A Naperville surrogate must be 21 to 43, have had at least one healthy full-term pregnancy, and be raising a child now; first-time base compensation is $60,000 (proposed) with a typical total package of roughly $68,000 to $78,000. Naperville intended parents budget $150,000 to $200,000 and fund an independent licensed escrow agent, not the agency.

Is there a surrogacy agency in Naperville?

No. Naperville does not have a surrogacy agency of its own. Families and surrogates in Naperville and the rest of DuPage and Will counties work with a Chicago-area agency, and do their medical appointments at a fertility clinic close to home.

Private Label Surrogacy is a nurse-founded agency in Northbrook, about 45 minutes from Naperville by car. Nancy Block, RN, founded it in 2017 after 17 years as an OB/GYN and fertility nurse at Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Prentice Women's Pavilion, and she personally runs matching. Mark Silverberg, DDS, MD, reads every surrogate candidate's prenatal and delivery records before a match is offered.

This page is written by Natalie Gaudio-Fricano, a PLS case manager. Natalie was a three-time egg donor and then a gestational surrogate, delivering a boy for an international couple in October 2016 after a first-transfer success. She has worked in medicine since 2002.

Where do Naperville surrogates do monitoring and screening?

A surrogate's medical screening happens at the intended parents' fertility clinic. Her monitoring appointments, the bloodwork and ultrasounds before transfer and in early pregnancy, usually happen at a clinic near her home. Naperville has fertility clinic locations, so a Naperville surrogate can do monitoring without driving to the city.

PLS works with 14 partner fertility centers, including Kindbody, Shady Grove Fertility, Fertility Centers of Illinois and Oregon Reproductive Medicine. Monitoring results go from the local clinic to the intended parents' clinic, which directs the medical plan. When the transfer date is set, the surrogate travels to the intended parents' clinic, and PLS covers that travel.

After the clinic releases her to her own OB, prenatal care continues near home, and she delivers at a hospital she chooses with her OB.

What are the surrogate requirements for DuPage and Will County residents?

The requirements are the same everywhere PLS works. To apply, you must be:

Screening has seven steps: online application, interview with a case manager, medical records review by Dr. Silverberg, background check, insurance review, psychological evaluation by an independent licensed professional, and medical screening at the intended parents' clinic. From application to match averages about 6 months.

The records review is the step that takes the most patience, because it depends on how quickly your previous OB and hospital send records. It is also the step that protects you. Dr. Silverberg's physician medical summary goes to the intended parents' clinic, so your history is understood before anyone plans a transfer.

What does a Naperville family pay, and when?

Naperville intended parents budget $150,000 to $200,000 for the full journey. Itemized, a PLS journey runs about $112,000 to $127,000 before clinic fees and any new surrogate insurance.

Payments are spread out. The program fee is paid in three installments: at signing, at surrogate acceptance and at medical clearance. At match you put $10,000 into an independent licensed escrow account, and you fund the balance before the surrogate starts medications. Third-party costs, $15,300 to $29,000 for attorneys, escrow administration, the psychological evaluation, background checks, insurance review, travel and monitoring, are paid through escrow. IVF and clinic fees go directly to your clinic. If the surrogate's health plan excludes surrogacy, a dedicated policy costs $5,000 to $40,000.

PLS never holds client money, and you may choose your own escrow company. See the Chicago program page for the full fee schedule.

How often would you need to visit Northbrook?

Rarely, and often never. Screening and monitoring happen at the fertility clinic. Agency contact is by phone, text and video. Intended parents sometimes come to Northbrook for a first consultation; many hold it by video instead.

For a surrogate, the trips that matter are to the clinic: monitoring near home, and the screening and transfer visits to the intended parents' clinic. Your case manager plans those with you and books the travel.

What you get instead of office visits is steady contact with people who have done this themselves. Both PLS case managers have been gestational surrogates. Through the pregnancy you also work with Julie Bendix, MPH, RD, LD, CLC, a registered dietitian and lactation counselor, who holds at least six nutrition consults with every PLS surrogate. Mental-health support is part of the package, provided by independent licensed professionals rather than agency staff.

When something goes wrong at an inconvenient hour, the after-hours team handles it. One night the PLS team rebooked a stranded surrogate's hotel, car and flight while another PLS surrogate was delivering twins. That kind of coverage is the reason PLS keeps caseloads capped.

How Naperville surrogates apply

  1. Complete the short online prescreen. It checks the core requirements first so you know quickly whether to continue.
  2. Complete the full application, which takes about 20 minutes.
  3. Hear from Nancy's team, usually within one business day, and schedule your interview with a case manager.
  4. Sign records releases so Dr. Silverberg can review your prenatal and delivery history.
  5. Complete the background check, insurance review and psychological evaluation.
  6. Meet intended parents when Nancy presents a match.

First-time base compensation is $60,000 (proposed), within a typical total package of roughly $68,000 to $78,000. Compensation is the same in Naperville as in Chicago or any other state PLS recruits in, and it is paid from independent escrow under your own agreement, reviewed by your own attorney, paid for by the intended parents.
