Match, matching, medical clearance, medication start fee, mock cycle
Match
The decision of a surrogate and intended parents to work together, usually after a match meeting. See matching.
Matching
The agency process of pairing screened surrogates with intended parents on criteria both have stated. Nancy Block, RN, runs matching personally at PLS. Matching takes about 6 months today.
Medical clearance
The fertility clinic's exam, ultrasound and labs confirming a surrogate can carry. See medical screening.
Medication start fee
A $500 payment to a PLS surrogate from escrow when her medications begin.
Mock cycle
A practice transfer cycle with the same medications and no embryo. See mock cycle.
Monitoring, mosaic embryo, multiples fee, OB release, OHSS
Monitoring
Blood tests and ultrasounds during a cycle, usually at a clinic near the surrogate's home.
Mosaic embryo
A PGT-A result showing both normal and abnormal cells.
Multiples fee
Additional surrogate compensation for a twin or triplet pregnancy. The PLS schedule pays $5,000 for twins and $10,000 for triplets.
OB release
The point when the fertility clinic hands the surrogate's care to her own obstetrician, after early ultrasounds. See OB release.
OHSS
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, a risk for egg donors, not surrogates. See OHSS risks.
Parentage order, pre-birth order, post-birth order, PGT-A, PIO
Parentage order
A court order naming the intended parents as the child's legal parents. See legal parentage.
Pre-birth order
A parentage order granted before delivery, so the birth certificate lists the intended parents from the start. See pre-birth order. Illinois law provides for pre-birth parentage (reviewed by counsel).
Post-birth order
A parentage order granted after delivery, in states that do not allow pre-birth orders. See pre-birth vs post-birth.
PGT-A
Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy: testing of an embryo's chromosome count before transfer. See PGT-A.
PIO
Progesterone in oil, the daily injection that supports the lining. See progesterone in oil.
Pregnancy test, progesterone, program fee, psychological evaluation
Pregnancy test
The beta hCG blood test 9 to 11 days after transfer. See beta hCG.
Progesterone
The hormone that makes the lining receptive and supports early pregnancy until the placenta takes over.
Program fee
The agency's fee for screening, matching and case management, paid in installments. Program fee: confirm current schedule. See surrogacy cost.
Psychological evaluation
An assessment of the surrogate by an independent licensed mental health professional. See psychological evaluation.
